What happens if my host cancels?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If your host cancels a confirmed booking, you are covered: you get your money back and you do not need to take any action to receive it.

You get a full refund

When a host cancels, Withlocals refunds the full amount, including the service fee. The refund goes back to the original payment method you used at checkout. You do not have to request it or pick a reason.

You are notified as soon as it happens

As soon as your host cancels, the booking status changes and you are notified through your usual Withlocals channels (email and, on supported apps, push).

Why would a host cancel?

Host cancellations are rare. When a host cancels, they pick a reason from a fixed list:

  • Health matter

  • Tickets unavailable

  • Key location closed

  • Unable to accommodate guest request

  • Severe weather

  • Force majeure

  • Requested by the guest

  • Scheduling conflict

  • No longer available

  • Other

Withlocals tracks host cancellations and treats them seriously, since they affect guests.

Can I rebook a similar experience?

Yes. You can browse other experiences in the same city and book again. Your refund for the cancelled booking is independent of any new booking you make.

Good to know

  • You never lose money when a host cancels a confirmed booking.

  • The refund timing is the same as any other refund and depends on your bank. See How long do refunds take?.

  • If the cancelled booking came from a partner platform like Viator or GetYourGuide, the partner handles the refund. See Booking through Viator or GetYourGuide.
