Searching for experiences

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Discovery on Withlocals starts from a destination. You tell us where you are going, and we show you the experiences available there.

Search by destination

Use the search bar on the home page. As you type, the autocomplete suggests matching cities and countries. Pick one from the list to open that destination's experiences.

The search bar has two modes:

  • Find an experience (default) searches destinations for experiences to book.

  • Find a local guide searches for hosts in a destination instead.

You can switch between the two when you open the search.

Browsing a destination

Once you pick a city, you land on that city's page. From there you can drill into categories like Tours and Activities, or browse by category (for example food tours, cooking classes, night tours). See What types of experiences are available for the full category list.

What each experience shows in search results

Every experience in the list shows:

  • Title and photo

  • Rating and number of reviews

  • Price per person

  • Duration

  • Destination

Click an experience to open the full page with the description, host profile, itinerary, what's included, meeting point, and reviews.

Good to know

  • Search suggestions are based on destinations, not free-text keywords, so type a city or country.

  • Save interesting experiences to your favorites by clicking the heart icon and come back to them later.

  • If nothing on the page fits, you can request a personalized offer from a host in that destination.
