Chatting with guests

The Withlocals in-app chat is how you talk to guests before and after a booking. Open a conversation from your host dashboard or the Withlocals app. Messages sync across both.

What you can send

From the chat, you can send:

  • Text messages.

  • A link to your host profile.

  • A link to one of your experiences.

  • A location pin.

  • A personalized offer (starts the offer form).

You can reply to a specific message, react with an emoji, star a message, and edit or delete messages you sent.

Message status

Each message you send shows a status: sent, delivered, or read. You can also see when the other person is typing.

Partner bookings are different

If the guest came through a partner platform like Viator or GetYourGuide, the chat is locked. A banner appears in place of the message input explaining that the guest books through the partner platform and does not see messages in Withlocals chat. Contact them using the details on the booking page instead.

Good to know

  • Reporting a conversation (hate speech, spam, scam or fraud, inappropriate behavior) is available from the chat details panel.

  • Your conversation history stays available after the experience ends.
