KYC and identity verification

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Every Withlocals host goes through identity verification (KYC). Withlocals uses Stripe Identity for this, so the ID check runs inside a secure Stripe session, not on the Withlocals site.

Where to start

The ID verification task lives in the Verifications section of your onboarding. Click the Verify button on the ID verification task to begin. You can also go directly to the identity verification page from the host links in your dashboard.

How it works

  1. On the identity verification page, click Verify my identity.

  2. Withlocals creates a Stripe verification session and takes you to Stripe in your current browser tab.

  3. Follow the Stripe instructions: choose a document type, take photos of your ID and, if asked, a selfie.

  4. When you finish, Stripe returns you to a confirmation page on Withlocals.

While Stripe is still reviewing, the task shows verification in progress and the button is disabled. When verification succeeds, the task switches to identity verified. If Stripe rejects your document, the task shows rejected and you can start again with a different ID.

Good to know

  • The identity check is handled end-to-end by Stripe. Withlocals does not store your ID photos directly.

  • If verification fails, you can retry with a different ID document.

  • You only need to do this once, unless your verified document expires or is rejected.

  • If you run into an error during the check, the page shows what went wrong. Contact Withlocals support if you cannot get past it.
